The highly acclaimed Alvor Trio will present a most varied programme of music for flute, viola and harp. Each half of the concert opens with a skilful reworking of music by Mozart, the first being a potpourri of famous moments from The Magic Flute ingeniously woven together; the second an arrangement of an early string quartet. The programme also includes Vaughan Williams’ ever-popular Studies on English Folk Song and ends with Debussy’s evocative Sonata for flute, viola and harp, arguably the most celebrated work for this combination. Also included is an enchanting contemporary work by Helen Grime; a brief Interlude by the French composer Jacques Ibert; and a most moving composition by John Pickard based on a true story of extraordinary courage during the Syrian Civil War.
