The highly acclaimed ensemble Cardiff Winds has at its core a group of top professionals based in Cardiff with links to the city’s major musical institutions. In this concert, oboists Ruth Bolister and Amy McKean and bassoonist Meyrick Alexander are joined by double bass player Gareth Sheppard of the Philharmonia Orchestra and leading British harpsichordist David Ponsford. Their all-Baroque recital begins and ends with works by the highly inventive composer Jan Dismas Zelenka. Between them will be heard a Vivaldi Sonata for a rare duo combination; a sublime Trio Sonata by Handel; and one of Bach’s greatest works for harpsichord.
